| Description: The solution of real-world problems from computational science and engineering requires an interdisciplinary approach including the use of sophisticated techniques from computer science. The aim of this lecture is to introduce students to these techniques and to give students a feeling for the choice of an adequate level of abstraction necessary to find an efficient solution. The focus is on the interplay between computer science and numerics as well as on the importance of exploiting the structure of a given problem when designing algorithms for its solution.
